Tuition
"Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind . . ."  - Plato

I'm a qualified teacher and a Musicians Union member, fully insured. I'm very experienced, having been teaching guitar for over 40 years and ukulele since the 1990s. According to Surrey County Council I was the first recognised and approved ukulele teacher in the county!

"Clive is a truly inspiring teacher, he has brought out the very best in Archie's musical ability."  - Laura Hignett, mother of Archie (12), private pupil

. . .  and from Archie himself: "Clive is an awesome and badass teacher."

"Since starting lessons with you Harry's confidence has grown almost beyond recognition and he is now in danger of being cool! He loves playing guitar and we are very appreciative of your patience and excellent teaching skills." - Tony & Georgie Cooke, parents of private pupil

1-TO-1 PRIVATE LESSONS
  • ukulele
  • acoustic guitar (not classical)
  • electric guitar
  • bass guitar (basic)

Lesson length: 1 hour (45-min. option for beginners & children)

All private 1-to-1 lessons are at my home. Sorry, I no longer travel out to teach people in their own homes and I don't generally teach children younger than 7.

Want to come with a friend or partner? 1-to-2 also possible - just split the cost.

Practical, hands-on approach, some theory as necessary but not too heavy, and no exams (if you want to go through the Grade system you'll need to find another teacher). Emphasis on -
  • developing listening skills, memory, good playing techniques
  • eliminating bad habits, encouraging good habits
  • having fun making music!

WORKSHOPS / SCHOOL TUITION
I am no longer offering regular tuition in schools or regular workshops in other venues, but I am happy to discuss running one-off or occasional workshops for adults or children.

STRESSBUSTING
As comedian Frank Skinner says:
"How do I relax? This may sound slightly ridiculous but I play the ukulele for at least an hour a day and I find something really blissful about it."

Playing the uke is a great stressbuster. It's small, light, portable, relatively cheap and easy to get started on. It brings a smile to the face of player and listener alike. It's fun . . .

and a lot cheaper than therapy!
